Saginaw ISD Transportation Dispatcher in Saginaw, Michigan

RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Transportation and Transportation Supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. USW Union.
  2. Twelve (12) month position.
  3. Rate of pay: $16.94 per hour.
  4. Full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
  5. Start date is upon expiration of the posting deadline and in accordance with Article XIII, Section C, 2 of the USW Contract.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Transportation Administrators, this position is responsible for dispatching transportation staff to ensure safe and timely transportation of students to school and related school events. Will provide input in the development and maintenance of bus routes and provide assistance with emergencies and adjustments due to accidents, weather breakdowns, or school schedules. May assist parents, drivers, and administrators in the resolution of problem situations.

DEPARTMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Daily dispatching of transportation staff.
  2. Assign extra trips.
  3. Alter, reroute, and rearrange schedules as directed.
  4. Working knowledge and skills with MS Excel, MS Word, and Google.
  5. Monitor and appropriately respond to all bus radio calls.
  6. May, as necessary, assign and acquaint transportation staff, including substitutes to routes.
  7. Provide input in the development, monitoring and modification of bus routes to maintain the most efficient and effective transportation operation.
  8. Provide timely and appropriate responses to parental inquiries and concerns.
  9. Coordinate with instructional staff and administrators as necessary to schedule transportation activities associated with field trips, special assignments, etc.
  10. Participate as necessary in staff meetings, student meetings, consultative meetings, etc.
  11. Work cooperatively with staff, parents, and the public.
  12. Maintain records and prepare reports.
  13. Attend professional meetings, safety meetings and other meetings as requested.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  2. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in school transportation department or related field.
  3. Basic computer skills.
  4. Ability to learn and/or demonstrated ability in working with a computerized routing program.
  5. Thorough knowledge of the district's streets, bus routes and all appropriate areas.
  6. Thorough knowledge of all pertinent federal, state, and local regulations, laws, policies, and procedures.
  7. CDL Class B license, Michigan School Bus Driver Qualifications, licenses, and prior bus driving experience preferred.
  8. Demonstrated ability to function positively under stress and severe time constraints.
  9. Good interpersonal relationship skills. Must be able to work well with students, parents, and co-workers.
