System One Roadway Design Engineer in Los Angeles, California

System One is seeking a Roadway Design Engineer in Chicago, IL!

Summary:

Responsible for the design and preparation of plan submissions related to interstate and arterial roadway design, complex highway interchanges, local roadways, bridge replacements/ rehabilitation's, and intersection projects and other various public agencies. Responsible for utilizing Bentley's OpenRoads software to develop innovative and efficient design for transportation infrastructure projects. This is a lead position with future management opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Bentley's OpenRoads software to develop 3D models, alignments, profiles, corridors, and cross-sections for transportation projects.

  • Prepares or preferably directs; 1) preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for difficult projects. 2) Construction management tasks.

  • Prepare detailed drawings, plans, and specifications for roadway, highway, and transit projects.

  • Plans and develops engineering projects concerned with unique or controversial problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation, and development of novel concepts and approaches.

  • Organizes and develops project team to execute specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, project design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and project inspection. Must be able to delegate.

  • Reviews project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.

  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, resolving engineering design problems.

  • Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.

  • Shows understanding of team management, develops project scope of work, estimating manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules, and tracks project progress.

  • Assures that the project is completed within the allocated period of time and within the budget assigned.

  • Develop and present proposals to clients.

  • Plans and executes project meeting. May negotiate a difficult project issue with the client, such as scope changes or schedule acceleration.

  • Assures the project meets quality control and quality assurance guidelines.

  • Maintain professional, technical, and supervisory skills by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Candidate must possess 5-10 years of design experience in transportation engineering with a focus on roadway design, alignment optimization, and geometric design.

  • Proficiency in MicroStation, In Roads, AutoTab, AutoTurn, OpenPlan, HEC-RAS, and MS Office

  • Proficiency in Bentley's OpenRoads software and related tools.

  • Strong technical skills in AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Familiarity with DOT Turnpike procedures, policies, standards, and publications

  • Experience in the entire design development process including preliminary engineering, final design and services during construction.

  • Familiarity with relevant design standards and guidelines (AASHTO, FHWA, state DOTs, etc.).

  • Engineering tasks include but are not limited to erosion and sedimentation control plans, traffic control, geometrics and roadway design, H&H, utilities, ROW plans, signing and pavement marking plans, pavement design, drainage and SWM, cross sections, earthwork, and PS&E packages

  • Strong leadership attributes; communication (written and verbal) skills; ability to be a team player; ability to lead and manage entry level engineers and designers; display of high energy; and perform problem solving skills.
