Location

This position will be located at our Fremont, CA location and will support the Niche Diagnostics which is part of the Clinical Diagnostics Division and the Specialty Diagnostics Group at Thermo Fisher Scientific.

The Senior Manager of PPI Business Systems is a Lean leader who collaborates closely with business leaders to identify, assess, and analyze opportunities for continuous improvement. This leader directly interacts with business teams to align training and improvement plans with their strategic objectives and ensures that projects have clear ownership within the business to drive execution. This leader inspires changes in the operating approach and ensures PPI principles are applied effectively in alignment with strategic, operational business plans.

A Day in the Life:

  • Lead/work with functional teams to streamline processes to improve the customer experience, enable profitable growth and become more efficient.

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and accountability to improve our business performance, including growth, productivity, asset utilization, inventory, and customer allegiance. Accelerate the cultural changes vital to support the PPI-Business System program.

  • Communicate, provide required reports and information, and participate in reporting processes, champion, track, measure, and report on PPI savings and PPI Business System maturity monthly.

  • Leverage financial acuity to assess, value, prioritize, and track initiatives.

  • Partner with finance personnel to evaluate project savings estimates, validate reported PPI benefits, and ensure accurate accounting of PPI Productivity.

  • Work closely with site PPI steering committee to identify ways to accelerate culture change and support our teams to apply critical project methodologies (Project Management, Formal PPI, Solo PPI, Kaizen, RCCM, Just Do It, etc.).

  • Facilitate sessions to develop annual strategic plans.

  • In conjunction with the division leadership, successfully implement the PPI strategic roadmap.

  • Drive PPI development of leaders, PPI practitioners and the general population.

  • Train, coach and follow-up with teams to ensure system improvements are sustained and the partners are running the processes independently. Deliver trainings such as Lean leadership, value stream mapping, kaizen, daily management, waste and variation elimination, material flow, standard work, cellular flow, SMED, 5S, visual management, lean sourcing, Lean office, built-in quality, etc.

  • Establish and mature the Lean Management System (tiered daily management systems, Gemba walks, and leader standard work (LSW)) and other coaching tools to transform the culture.

  • Partner with site leaders to create, standardize, and drive operating mechanisms that drive key performance indicators, accountability, and action planning to improve business performance continually.

  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching for PPI team members.

  • Lead and develop the PPI project funnel and may periodically be assigned to lead specific projects across the business.

  • Establish, maintain, and complete Site PPI Roadmap.

  • Facilitate RCCM, Kaizens, Productivity Brainstorming, critical metric reviews, and strategy deployment sessions.

  • Lead, guide, and mentor on PPI tools, investigations, data and financial analysis to build strong, successful teams and culture.

  • Maintain qualifications in all PPI Sponsored Certification Programs.

Keys to Success:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Business, or a related field required.

Experience

  • 8+ years of directly related experience working with Lean, Business Process Improvement, Continuous Improvements, Kaizen, etc.

  • Experience in the Diagnostics and Medical Devices industry is desired.

  • Experience in sophisticated data collection, measuring, analysis, improvement, and control.

  • Experience working in recognized Lean business system and a confirmed understanding of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing/Enterprise philosophies.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong eye for business to assess financial benefits for prioritization and impact.

  • Strong investigative, data analysis, and statistical abilities to assist in solving simple to sophisticated problems.

  • Process manufacturing experience, preferably related to reagent or chemical manufacturing.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal, time management, decision-making, conflict resolution skills with a focus on coaching and influencing.

  • Passion for driving business improvement and leading change in a large and global environment.

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to master a variety of software applications (SAP, Brainshark, iConnect, DPloy).

  • Experience coaching alignment between strategic business plans and lean improvement plans.

  • Formal lean training and extensive knowledge of Lean and continuous improvement methodologies and tools.

  • Shown implementation track record delivering results through a collaborative approach.

  • Must have the ability to see bigger picture and envision step-change scenarios.

  • Leadership or supervisory experience a plus.

  • Ability to optimally communicate and develop positive relationships with all levels of the organization is essential.

  • Strong coaching, facilitation skills, and accomplished written, oral and presentation skills.

  • Ability to effectively lead project teams through entire improvement cycle, starting with project definition and ending with standardization of solutions (leadership experience, strong project management and organizational capabilities).

  • Ability to deliver fact- based decisions and apply a mentality for Lean Management.

  • Detailed knowledge of quality theory and lean tools and methodologies (5S, Visual Controls, A3, SMED, Flow, GEMBA’s, Standard Work, etc.).

  • Proven ability to tackle problems through effective application of root cause analysis and countermeasure methodology.

  • Ability to accurately and quickly assess a situation and resolve and implement corrective measures to maintain flow of production.

  • The ability to independently own initiatives and drive execution through team and in a matrix reporting environment.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $141,800.00–$212,675.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
