JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Cancer Institute. in Hershey, PA, is seeking a Clinical Trials Workforce Development Educator & Trainer. In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Cancer Clinical Research and the Administrative Director of the Cancer Institute Clinical Trials Office, the Workforce Development Educator and Trainer supports the growth and development of the Penn State Clinical Trials Office (CTO) by achieving strategic objectives including overseeing multiple project activities related to training and education of clinical research staff and investigators. This role is responsible for ensuring cancer clinical research faculty and staff receive appropriate onboarding, initial role-specific training, and continuing education opportunities. This role is essential to ensuring safe, effective, and compliant cancer clinical research across the CTO staff. A leader within the CTO, the Workforce Development Educator and Trainer serves as a positive change agent to initiate and support progress toward achieving organizational cancer clinical research strategic goals across consortium sites. The Educator and Trainer e nsures compliance with all federal and local agencies including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and local Institutional Review Board (IRB).

  • Works in conjunction with Directors and Unit Leads, coordinates all aspects of training, educating and onboarding for all new employees (investigators and staff) in to the PSCI CTO, including the development of infrastructure that supports the on-going training and education needs for new staff

  • Works with external stakeholders at PSU University Park, Greater Allegheny, the CTSI and College of Nursing on clinical research training and education programs as needed

  • Oversees an entire training and education program and coordinates with Team Leads, Subject Matter Experts, and management to ensure education deadlines are met within the designated probationary period outlined through Human Resources

  • Develops and maintains a tracking system to ensure initial and ongoing job competencies have been completed for all PSCI CTO staff

  • Oversees education quality and regularly assesses the educational needs within the PSCI CTO

  • Coordinates regularly occurring training in-services with staff; works directly with the cancer center nurses, research nurses, managers and subject matter experts to schedule required training meetings for new staff

  • Works directly with PSCI CTO leadership to ensure staff maintain and follow all working instructions, SOPs and research practices using Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines

  • Tracks and documents training documents available to staff; manages these documents in a way that allows for easy navigation by staff

  • Identifies process improvement areas within the training and education program to assure an efficient and robust education program

  • Assists leadership if re-training request and prepares presentations appropriately

  • Compiles and manages job aides, presentations and other training materials into a repository easily accessible by staff; regularly updates all training documents as amendments and updates become available

  • Ensures compliance with all training and education provided to research staff; develops a secondary check method to ensures staff thoroughly understand the concepts presented to them as part of the onboarding process

  • Serves as the point of contact for staff with questions about concepts presented as part of the training and education process; serves as a resource to CTO staff when questions about procedures arise

  • Serves as CTO representative at career/job fairs as well as departmental internship program to support creation of candidate pipeline

  • Promotes diversity throughout the department

  • May be involved in centralized activities such as preparation of clinical research policies and standard operating procedures

  • Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking with an ability to work with numbers, metrics and spreadsheets

  • Experience in identifying target audiences and devising creative campaigns that engage, inform and motivate

  • Experience working on quality and performance improvement processes and initiatives

  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, verbal and written communication skills. Command of the English language

  • Current with latest trends and best practices in the industry

  • Other job duties as assigned

Minimum Education & Experience

6+ years related experience

Master's Degree or higher

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
