Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking (5) Engineering Managers, supporting the Maritime Systems & Integration (MS&I) Operating Unit and the Power & Controls System (P/CS) Operating Unit. Positions will be located based on the specific role identified below and will lead teams aligned to programs in the Operating Units' portfolios. The specific positions are as follows:

  • Design & Drafting Engineering Manager (Charlottesville, VA)

  • Engineering Support Engineering Manager (Charlottesville, VA)

  • PQL/Model Shop Engineering Manager (Charlottesville, VA)

  • P/CS Controls Systems Engineering Manager (Sykesville, MD)

  • OPC Machinery Control Systems Engineering Manager (Charlottesville, VA)

Each team is responsible for engineering development and support to production for the ultimate end use in submarines and the surface Navy. Each engineering manager will be responsible for leading a distributed geographical, highly dynamic, multi-discipline engineering team.

In this role, each Engineering Manager will be responsible for the following:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the program(s) technical roadmap strategy

  • Ensure the business is appropriately staffed and enable resource sharing across multiple business areas

  • Lead strategic actions to improve the business of engineering

  • Drive engineering strategy and practices pertinent to the Naval Systems E&S organization, including but not limited to investments and talent strategy

  • Growing the headcount with continued, strong focus on retention efforts, engagement initiatives, and diversity

  • Drive key talent development and workforce planning efforts

  • Elevate engineering rigor

  • Drive predictable financial and program results

  • Prioritize engineering investments aligned with strategic imperatives

  • Demonstrate thought leadership on digital transformation

  • Positions may require travel up to 25% of the time to support distributed team

Candidates must have exceptional leadership and teambuilding skills, strategic thinking, strong technical acumen, and the ability to lead multiple engineering disciplines across programs. The candidate will work with cross-discipline team members and therefore must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentation experience and the demonstrated ability to work seamlessly with a diverse community of engineers and managers to achieve the goals of the organization. The candidate must have the ability to build consensus and resolve conflict. The candidate must collaborate with business area leadership, and other functional partners to resolve complex issues in a timely manner to help meet program commitments.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 9 years of experience, a Master's degree with 7 years of experience or a PhD with 5 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or related technical fields.

  • U.S Citizenship with active DoD Secret Clearance

  • 3 years of professional experience in the defense or aerospace industries

  • 2 years demonstrated success managing technical teams.

  • 2 years of experience working in a technical role

  • Proven experience as a team player and collaborator

  • Very strong engineering background with demonstrated experience managing through design and production.

  • Solid understanding of engineering process with execution experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields.

  • Program management experience

  • Success as a leader of large technical organization

  • Experience managing large control accounts with accountability for scope, schedule, budget, and technical performance

  • Experience with product line management and product line engineering

  • Demonstrated success in creating and executing affordability initiatives

Salary Range: $131,200 - $217,400

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
