Job Assignment:Part-Time PROPERTY MAINTENANCE LABORER Job Number:08-0616 Department:08-Planning and Development Pay:$13.26 per hour Immediate Supervisor: Property Maintenance Foreman

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is a seasonal position and is scheduled to work less than 1000 hours per fiscal year. A non-supervisory position with journeyman level responsibility for the performance of skilled manual labor, including the care and maintenance of property, drainage ditches, creeks and rough landscaping. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood I SERVE Core Values.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:

  • Cut grass and weeds with gas powered push mowers, weed eaters and/or hand tools as appropriate
  • Cut and trim hedges and trees with gas powered chain saws, pole saws and/or hand tools as appropriate
  • Clean areas with brooms and powered blowers
  • Pull trash, debris, fallen and cut trees from creeks and drainage areas with and without powered assistance
  • Spray common herbicides using a backpack rig (3-5 gallon)
  • Cleans out ditches and culverts
  • Assists other employees in repairs and maintenance, including painting
  • Drives city vehicle between work sites
  • Performs other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from various worksites.
  • Employee will be exposed to outdoors, and adverse or seasonal temperatures while performing maintenance duties and be exposed to potentially hazardous mechanical and chemical hazards.
  • Ability to lift materials weighing up to 75 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, walk, push brooms, sweep and dig.
  • Ability to walk over sloped and uneven terrain.
  • Work involves getting dirty and wet, cutting grass and tree limbs.
  • Employee will be exposedto dirt, dust, noises, fumes and odors.
  • Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with the public.
  • Ability to understand verbal and written communication.
  • Required to work flexible hours when necessary.

CONTACTS WITH OTHERS: Little contact with the general public; normal contact with other City employees.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must have enough education to at least read and write.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Basic knowledge of methods, practices and materials used in property maintenance, landscaping and general construction work; ability to understand and follow verbal instructions; ability to perform job satisfactorily without constant supervision.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: Valid Class C Texas Driver License is required.
