Kennel Attendant - Part Time

The Kennel Attendant works under the immediate supervision of the Animal Shelter Manager. Performs varied animal care duties and janitorial tasks; does related work as required. This is moderate work that involves working with animals at the shelter. Work requires sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, and lifting. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surrounding and activities. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a clean, healthy environment for the animals and the public through thorough cleaning daily and spot cleaning as needed, inside and outside of the building.
  • Janitorial duties include laundry, dishes, washing windows, cleaning general shelter grounds, and sweeping/mopping public areas.
  • Feeds and provides water for the animals, including providing special diets as needed.
  • Assessing temperaments of animals under the guidance of management to find best possible placement in the shelter.
  • Monitors the health of the animals in the shelter, entering the shelter, and on an ongoing basis by quickly identifying any health problems or conditions (medical or behavioral) and immediately reporting them to management.
  • Assists with the movement of animals throughout the shelter.
  • Treats all animals humanely, properly, and with compassion at all times, regardless of the situation or circumstance.
  • Provides good and professional customer service when working with the public.
  • Assists the shelter or lead kennel attendant with additional tasks and stocks supplies as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of animal care.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform various janitorial tasks.
  • Ability to perform duties and follow department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain animal health and well-being by monitoring behavior and temperament

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent Licenses/Certificates or Other Requirements: Valid Driver's License
