Position Summary

Receives and screens incoming calls from the public for emergency and non-emergency services; monitors and responds to alarm systems including fire panels, intrusion alarms, temperature alarms, and panic alarms. Also monitors security cameras for all CNM campus locations, archiving video footage when necessary to assist with investigations. Performs data entry to document pertinent activity at all campus locations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Obtains all applicable information required to initiate a dispatch of services. Prioritizes calls to coordinate and initiate a response of service.
  • Manages flow of incident related information to/from field units, utilizing departmental 10-code as well as plain language, to include monitoring location and/or status of field personnel.
  • Coordinates emergency services response from outside agencies including Albuquerque Police, Bernalillo and/or Sandoval County Sheriff Departments, Rio Rancho Public Safety or Fire Department, and other emergency services providers determined to be necessary or as directed by the shift supervisor, Deputy Chief or Chief of Security, while maintaining multiple communication and data base systems and updating/relaying pertinent on-going information.
  • Responsible for relaying accurate direction when dispatching officers to emergency incidents on CNM properties/geography.
  • Operates multi-channel radio system, multi-line telephone system, computers, data communication terminals and other complex communication equipment to quickly and accurately access information and respond to requests.
  • Dispatches additional internal and external resources as needed or requested i.e. elevator repair, maintenance services, parking services, safety department services.
  • Monitors/resets alarm systems, provides notification and reports problems to appropriate personnel.
  • Proficiently and accurately locking down and clearing a locked down campus utilizing the Access Control System in the event of an active shooter, mass assailant, or other high priority incident determined to be necessary or as directed by the shift supervisor, Deputy Chief or Chief of Security.
  • Monitor multiple phone system applications to ensure functionality (Jabber/Zoom Recording System/Cisco Emergency Responder).
  • Operates a Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD) to record all emergency and non-emergency calls. Prepares, distributes and assigns incident reports utilizing the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to include properly recording pertinent information in chronological order to maintain concise and detailed information recorded in the Report System (AKA Omnigo).
  • Performs a high level of customer contact related to internal and external departmental requests, resources, and support services.
  • Access information systems such as Banner Student System, State Motor Vehicle System, T2 Parking System, Zoom Call Recording System, ReportSystem (Omnigo), License Plate Reader, and Access Control System.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties, including filing of reports, maintenance of logs of all applicable radio information, alarm activity, critical incidents, and restraining orders, criminal trespass orders, faculty usage forms, federally mandated Clery Timely Warning/Emergency notifications, vehicle logs, IPRA logs, and other recording equipment located in dispatch.
  • Reviews access control card status, disabling Access/Identification cards when necessary or upon the direction of the Chief of Security, Deputy Chief of Security or an executive member of Human Resources.
  • Updates and manages key inventory to include issuing keys to applicable staf , ensuring the return of issued keys on a daily basis.
  • Communicates with campus Information Technology department to resolve all technical issues related to telephone and computer hardware/software problems in the Dispatch Center.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, including foot/vehicle patrols throughout CNM Main Campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED and New Mexico Department of Public Safety Telecommunication Certificate and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) VOIP E911 Certificate.
  • Two (2) years of dispatch experience required.
  • This position requires a valid unrestricted Driver's License.

Preferences:

  • Previous emergency communications experience
  • Previous experience with Federal and State regulations and procedures relating to emergency communications.
  • Previous useand application of Dispatch radio console systems, access control systems, alarm systems, CAD.

Additional Comments to Applicants: Dispatch operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Shifts may vary with the needs of the College. May be assigned to any shift, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Cover letter and resume required.
